Anne Hathaway has answered online speculation about her pregnancy after photographs of her exposed baby bump prompted some social-media users to claim that it did not look real. The Oscar-winning actor, who is expecting her third child with husband Adam Shulman, responded in characteristically brief and playful fashion.
Hathaway, 43, and Shulman are already parents to two sons: Jonathan, 10, and Jack, who was born more than six years ago. News that their family was growing again came on June 19, when Hathaway revealed the pregnancy through a lighthearted social-media video. Wearing a flowing white dress, the The Devil Wears Prada 2 star entered the frame with her arms placed in front of her stomach, then smiled and held her developing bump. She captioned the announcement, “x Baby, I’m yours x.”
Hathaway described the pregnancy as a joyful surprise
In the weeks after sharing the news, Hathaway spoke openly about how delighted she and Shulman were. During a July appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers, she called the pregnancy “amazing” and admitted that the couple had been surprised by the outcome, even though they understood what they were doing.
She jokingly referred to the baby as their “buzzer-beater,” a nickname that reflected how little certainty they had allowed themselves. Hathaway later explained at the New York City premiere of The Odyssey on July 14 that, at her age, the possibility had seemed very small. She said they had chosen to see where life took them while maintaining realistic and deliberately low expectations.
The actor also acknowledged that pregnancy does not happen for everyone, including people who deeply want children. That reality, she said, made the couple especially grateful. For Hathaway and Shulman, the new pregnancy was not something they took for granted.
